Can I collect unemployment if I chose to voluntarily lay my self off?

Hello thanks for taking the time to help me, so we had a meeting today at work discussing the upcoming weeks and how things were going to run. My work was directly affected by the recent earthquake in Japan. So they are cutting the days of the week to 4 and no more than 32 hour shifts and also gave us the option for voluntarily layoff. The president of the company answered questions at the end and one person asked if we would be able to collect unemployment if we did it, he was told yes but I was just wanting to make sure that it would very likely happen.
