I was fired by email stating that I verbally resigned and I didn't can this be done?

If my company stated that I verbally told them i would resign and I didn't what can I do? They sent me an email stating that's what I said and fired me through email. Also what if my position was originally picked to receive a layoff due to the company outsourcing and they decided to fire me due to this "verbal notice"? I have documentation showing that I didn't have any work left? How can this be fought? I live in Atlanta, GA
