Prior employers says not rehireable.?

In 2003, my company had already had one set of layoffs. They wanted to reduce again, but not pay out all the extras. They chose about five employees and started finding little issues to "write up" about. I had just had a positive review only two months prior. At the first write up, I was not given the opportunity to correct issues. After a follow up write up, I saw the writing on the wall and decided to quit in order to keep my earned benefits. Now I'm listed as "Not Rehireable" as I quit in the middle of a write up. What do I tell potential new employers?
